Another late rise and with nothing booked in until later on in the afternoon we decided to have a look at Disney Boardwalk to see what it was all about. There was no direct bus so we got a shuttle to Hollywood Studios where we changed and got on a boat to the Boardwalk. The boat ride was short as we got off early at one of the hotel docks nearby and walked to the entrance to Disney Boardwalk. The area was very quiet and we’d gotten half way round it very quickly, we saw ESPN world of sport restaurant so we decided to nip in there for lunch. Stacey and I had Philly cheese steaks whilst Jacob and Flo shared fish and chips and Leila pasta again! The food was pretty average and the venue the same, there were loads of screens around with sport on, golf, NFL, hockey and NBA but no football. I asked our waitress if she could ask if one of the screens near us could have “soccer” on which felt very wrong but she obliged and put on an equivalent of Sky Sports News, the first headline was that Harry Kane was back in the squad for the game against Watford so already a good start to the day.
We wandered round the rest of the Boardwalk which was made up mainly of a few restaurants and shops before jumping on another boat to Hollywood studios.
We had lunch booked in at Minnie’s Hollywood diner where we were seated in the corner and had all the characters come up to us again for photos and autographs. Whilst it is amazing every time a different one comes to say hi I think I’ve got to the point where I’d rather I was left alone to eat my lunch in peace without having to grab for my camera every few minutes so as not to miss any hugs the kids are dishing out to Mickey, Donald and Pluto! Lunch was an all you can eat buffet with pretty much any food you can imagine ever available. The kids played around with some hot food and then had 3 bowls of ice cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkle each. The restaurant definitely wasn’t the best but it was adequate, the main purpose of eating here is that by doing so we were given priority tickets to the Fantasmic show which was later on in the evening. Stacey promised me it would be spectacular.
With our bellies full of food we headed across to the rides we had booked in, our fast passes were used up on the Aerosmith Rock N Roller coaster and tower of terror today so we had to get to those on time. We started with Aerosmith and after much persuasion Leila and I went on first. We had been told that this was the fastest ride at Disney and I was actually slightly worried. We queued up and the closer we got to the front the more Leila was getting worried about it, when we were inside queuing you can see the beginning of how ride and that did not help out her situation at all….. the ride looked like it goes from 0-60 in a second with a photo being taken immediately as you start. Leila asked the lady if it went upside down and when she was told that it did not only once but three times her face dropped and she didn’t want to go on. In fairness to her it was easy to convince her and in doing so made me forget I was worried about the ride! I told Leila that no matter how we felt about the ride we HAD to tell Mum and Jacob that it was brilliant so that they weren’t scared to go on it, I didn’t need to worry, we both absolutely loved it despite it being the fastest ride by a long shot we’d been on, Leila wanted to go back on again she loved it that much. We came out and told the other two how brilliant it was and they went off and queued up, a part of me knew that they were a bit scared any were just putting a brave face on, especially Jacob…. I was just glad Leila chose to go on with me! After about 20 minutes they came back and seemed to enjoy it, it turns out that Jacob was absolutely petrified though and nearly didn’t go on as he read the sign whilst queuing up that said it went upside down and convinced himself he was going to be sick, Stacey managed to convince him to go on and he actually loved it, not so sure about she did so much though!
Next up was Tower of Terror! Stacey and Jacob went on first this time so Leila, Flo and I sat on the floor and waited for them to come out. They were gone a while and they both came out saying how wonderful it was and how we would love it……. I knew exactly what they were up to but skipped off with Leila to use our fast pass anyway. We chatted with a Canadian family in the queue who had been on the ride several times and said that it wasn’t as bad as Aerosmith, Leila was getting more nervous the closer we were getting to the front of the queue and gripped my hand tighter as we were ushered on to our carriage. The ride was brilliant, it went up and down so fast that you come off your seat at times. The best part is when you get right to the top of the tower and they open the windows and you see right out across the parks, Leila loved it and all her nerves before we for soon forgotten.
We left to browse some shops before our tickets were valid for the Fantasmic show which Stacey had assured us all would be fantastic! The kids bought some things they don’t really need or even really want just because they were there, they got stormtrooper helmets that could be different colours, neither of them were impressed with what the actually got. We decided to queue up and meet Buzz and Woody as Flo loves Toy Story and she was desperate to see Buzz. The queue was long and full of small children, in total we queued for just under an hour which was the longest we had queued for anything the whole holiday but it was well worth it when we got to Andy’s bed and meet them both. We posed for pictures and the children all got their autographs and high fives with them. After all the excitement we needed wee’s so we quickly found the toilets.
We decided to head towards our Fantasmic show and on the way there was an opportunity too good to pass up, the wait time to meet Chewbacca was only 10 minutes…… How could we possibly turn this down!? I made everyone come with me so I didn’t look silly meeting him on my own, we got to the hanger to meet him and he gave us all a massive hug which was amazing, If Fantasmic was half as good then we were already winning! We made our way with the crowds to the stage where Fantasmic was being held, we were running a bit late (mostly because of Chewbacca) and when we got to the seating there didn’t seem like there were many left, we looked around for seats together and before we knew it we were at the very front of the arena and lo and behold there were some seats free so we decided to plonk ourselves down there with the assumption that we would get moved because they must be for someone else being so close and with a clear view of the show. The PA started to play Don’t Stop Believin’ so the whole crowd started singing along before the show started. The show started and we didn’t get moved from our price seats but we did realise that we were sat where you could get wet.
With the show finished (which lasted a lot longer than any of us expected) we made our way to the shuttle bus to get home, problem was everyone had exactly the same idea so we were stuck in a huge crowd heading for the exit, another disadvantage of sitting near the front is that you are last out. I forgot where we parked the buggy so Jacob and I battled back through the crowd to get to where we thought it was parked, it wasn’t there so we battled again and eventually found it. We queued to get our shuttle bus which was packed, we got to our hotel and all collapsed exhausted after a super long magical awesome day.
