First things first as I know you’ve all been extremely worried……. the £6.49 moisturiser turned up so we can carry on with our holiday, that put a real dampener on things for 24 hours.
Today started similarly to yesterday, ludicrously early because of the time difference and jet lag I would imagine, Stacey was awake first then myself and the children soon followed, we decided to make the most of it and got ready as we had a reservation for breakfast at Chef Mickeys at 7:40. We found out last night that this was too early for any of the shuttle busses so we were in the hands of an Uber driver named Bahjat who was extremely well mannered and obviously took pride in his Toyota Corolla, I’d be well mannered too if I was charging $7.43 to drive for 5 minutes, his only black mark was that he had the Maroon 5 album on in the Corolla, despite this he still got a five star review from me.
We arrived at Chef Mickeys 10 minutes early so had our photos done at one of their photo spots, our table was ready as soon as we’d finished so we went and sat down. Our waitress told us that there were 5 characters today and that they would all come over individually and meet us. I went in to this thinking that I wouldn’t be that bothered for it all, that lasted all of 30 seconds when Goofy rocked up to our table and both Jacob and Leila were completely blown away and instantly ran over to him to give him a massive hug with huge grins on their faces like all their Christmas’ had come at once. Pretty sure thats why its called “the magic of Disney”. Mickey came over next and by this point I was completely sold and couldn’t help myself and had to get a photo with him, it’s Mickey Mouse after all! We had Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck all come over and say hi, the kids got photos with them all as well as their autographs for their books whilst all the time grinning from ear to ear. I really cant even tell you what any of us had for breakfast but there was everything you could possible imagine available, I do know that I had tater tots.
After breakfast we got the monorail from the Contemporary Resort to Magic Kingdom. We had to get our bags checked by security who told me off for not unzipping my bags before getting to him and then they weren’t best pleased about Leila’s selfie stick being in there so we had to go and leave it with guest services which meant battling through the crowds of queuing people. The process was in fact very easy and we were in the park within 10 minutes. As someone that’s only ever been to Disneyland Paris before my mind was completely blown instantly, the amount of effort that must go in to maintaining the place is astonishing. We walked for 2 minutes and passed several members of staff (cast members) who were all full of smiles and seemingly loved chatting to anyone that would engage them. We saw one of the professional photographers they have in the parks and asked for some photos, Stacey asked for the lady to “add some magic” which I had no idea about. The photographer asked us to do several different poses and faces which was all a bit odd and made no sense but made me giggle loads! As part of our package we got a “Memory Maker” included which means that we scan our magic bands and the photos get sent directly to the Disney app on our phone for us to save.
Our first Fast Pass ride wasn’t booked until 11am on Peter Pans flight so we headed for Tomorrow Land to go on a couple of rides, we started with the Astro Orbiter, I went with Leila, Stacey wth Flo and Jacob went on his own. Leila loved it and wanted to go as high as possible as quick as possible, Jacob didn’t move his shuttle up an inch! Once finished we went to queue for It’s a Small World, on the way the kids decided to get a Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream. I knew exactly what to expect from It’s a Small World and was not disappointed, only downside is the annoying song which is stuck in your head for the rest of the day whether you want it to be or not. As soon as we came off of the ride we went directly opposite to Peter Pans flight which we had pre booked and headed straight on skipping all of the queues, it is extremely satisfying going to the front whilst everyone else is waiting for a space!
We decided to go and get Buzz Lighyear’s autograph and a photo with him as Flo had been asking about meeting him for weeks, on the ay there she fell asleep in the buggy but we came up with a cunning plan, we would keep her asleep until just before we were next in the queue to meet him and then wake her up and get the photo and put her back in the buggy to sleep again. I know you’re all thinking that will never work, she’ll be too grumpy, she wont wake up, she wont go back to sleep afterwards………. you’re all wrong, the plan went seamlessly without a hitch, she woke up, was excited to see Buzz and happily had her photo with him before going back in the buggy and falling asleep happily. Next on the agenda was to have a wander round some of the shops on Main Street before our booked time slot on the Seven Dwarves Mine Train, Jacob got in to pin trading with the cast members and was focused on completing a certain set, he was very grown up going up to the staff and negotiating trades for the pins he wanted, Leila soon twigged that this might be fun so swiftly hopped on the band wagon, in one shop she even initiated a trade for one that she knew Jacob needed for his set just to wind him up, I had every sympathy for him as I know exactly what devious swines little sisters can be like.
With the shops exhausted and time fast approaching for our Seven Dwarves Mine Train appointment fast approaching we walked round the side of Cinderella’s Castle that we hadn’t yet been and discovered that there was loads of Magic Kingdom we had no idea even existed, we realised we would need at least another day here to even touch the sides of it. We got to the Seven Dwarves ride to discover that Bizzle was too small to go on so we had to do a “parent swap” which meant 2 of us going on and then the other 2 going on afterwards but being able to skip the queue the 2nd time round, Jacob and I were first up, he absolutely loved it, he actually said that it was one of the best moments of his life! When we got off and tagged in Stacey and Leila they discovered that Jacob could actually go on with them again, he could not believe his luck and off they went whilst Flo and I went and got an ice cream, it was actually me that got an ice cream as Flo was still sleeping. Stacey, Jacob and Leila loved the ride, Jacob said he had to sit next to an American woman and the only thing she said to him was “you better not puke on me”, luckily he didn’t as he wasn’t sure what she would have done. When we checked the Disney app on my phone there were some videos and photos from the ride which we had no idea we would get so it was fun looking at them whilst we made our way to the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin ride.
Space Ranger Spin was the last thing we had booked for the day so we decided to do that and then head back to our hotel before heading out for some food at Disney Springs. I went in a car with Leila, Stacey with Florence and Jacob wanted to go on his own, I obviously got the high score out of the Finchers much to Jacobs annoyance as he thought he had it in the bag. Leila left her sunglasses on the ride, Stacey blamed me for it. Stacey asked one of the cast members if they had any handed in and sure enough they did, thankfully one pair were Leila’s so all was right again so we headed off to the bus stop to get our shuttle back to our resort.
Once in our room we quickly got ready to go out before the kids had too much time to complain, they still found time to though as they were still incredibly tired from all the travelling as well as an epic day of magic. We got the boat from our hotel to Disney Springs and looked around the vast amount of shops they have there, Jacob and Leila traded pins with cast members whilst we tried to figure out somewhere to eat. We ended up in an Irish Pub of all places and had a meal there, Jacob complained of feeling unwell and actually fell asleep in the booth we were in so we just put it down to tiredness. We skipped dessert as the day was rapidly starting to catch up with everyone. We settled up and walked back to the dock to get out boat. Jacob and I sat together on the way back and discussed how many American Presidents we could name, turns out it isn’t that many but we did learn that there have been 4 presidents assassinated and the longest serving president was Franklin D. Roosevelt (4,422 days, 1933–1945 in case you were interested, he is also the only president to serve more than two terms and one of four to die whilst in power). We grabbed a drink in our refillable cup on the way past the restaurant and got back to our room where everyone promptly fell asleep. A hard days Disneying for sure. Hollywood Studios beckons tomorrow which I am very excited about.
