We were up and out ridiculously early considering what time we got to bed. Stacey and I had signed up for the Disney Vacation Club presentation and talk, mostly because they have you 3 fast passes each to any ride you wanted and a $100 gift card to spend anywhere but also because we were having such a great time and could see ourselves coming back in the future. For some stupid reason neither of us could figure out why we arranged for a 8:10am pick up but we did so we were up and out. They collected us in a special van and took us to their showroom complex, we were expecting the hard sell but it was quite the opposite, they basically show you round a “what you could have had” for your money if you were in the club. To be fair the villas were amazing and the thought of waking up, opening the curtains and having a giraffe at your balcony did appeal (to me at least). The two big kids were left in a kid zone where they were basically drip fed sugar, computer games and anything Disney they could get their hands on. Our tour guide Frank finished up with us and led us back to collect the kids, he took us to the exit and there was a bonus ice cream parlour where everyone could have as much ice cream as they wanted and stay for as long as they want. Stacey and I didn’t have any as it was too early but Jacob, Leila and Flo did not need asking twice! I collected the gift card and loaded the fast passes on to our magic bands and filled up my cup with free coffee before they led us out to a van where they told us they would take us to anywhere in Disney property we wanted. We had bookings at Epcot so that is where they dropped us off, right by the main entrance too, none of this bus stop malarkey for VIP’s like us Finchers!
We missed our first ride booked due to the DVC but that was fine as we had our free fast passes to use. Our next ride booked was Frozen Ever After so we headed to Norway for it, the ride was average at best but we could all go on together so that was good. Flo and Leila loved it which was the main thing, the effects were decent is probably the best thing I could say about it. We got off the ride and had a browse though the gift shop, Leila bought a charm for her bracelet and surprisingly that was it. Stacey and I grabbed a Norwegian beer from a stand and we sat on a bench to drink them and take a few photos. I put my beer down on the floor for a minute and Stacey managed to kick it over, 10 dollars I’ll never be seeing again!!!
Next on the finely tuned agenda was a lunch booking at Chip n Dales restaurant. We were shown to our table which was on a revolving floor and we were lucky enough to get a booth. We were told that all our food would be bought over and we didn’t have to do anything else, we were also told that Chip, Dale, Pluto and Mickey were there today and would come round to our table to say hi. We were bought bread, salad and potato salad and Pluto made an appearance. The kids had hugs and autographs and we were bought out more food. Stuffing, pot roast, mashed potato, fries, turkey, cranberry, ham, mac and cheese, more salad, polish sausage to name a few. Chip (or Dale) came round next and did the photos and autographs, Flo refused to high five or fist bump him so he left upset. We ploughed our way through our food and got bought more drinks. Dale (or Chip) came round next. Florence did high five this time but refused to hug. We were stuffed! Mickey was the last character to come round and he flatly refused to leave without a hug from Florence, he got in to our booth and sat next to her and waited until she gave him a high five and a kiss. Definitely the best character experience we’ve had so far. Pudding was bought out, the kids had special cookies as it was Chip and Dales birthday the day before and they were made especially for that, turns out they were over 70….. they looked good for their age!
We left the restaurant and headed for our next ride, Soarin’ which I had no idea what to expect from. Stacey went on first and I waited with Bizzle, she was showing off running around in the lobby because some people dared show her some attention and laughed at her, she was running up and down doing dance moves for them, they thought she was great entertainment. Leila came off the ride saying it was the best thing she’d done so far and we HAD to go on right now. Myself and the 2 big ones went on and whilst the ride was good it certainly wasn’t the best yet for me. Jacob hid in certain parts because he thought a shark might show up….. there was no shark!
Next door to Soarin’ was the Finding Nemo ride which is followed by a turtle talk, the Nemo ride was as you’d expect, very child friendly, Flo enjoyed it though which was the main thing. We decided to jump in on the turtle talk and I was surprised how good it was, we mostly did it for Florence so obviously she fell asleep within 5 minutes of it starting!
Next on the list was Test Track which is a ride sponsored by Chevrolet. You design your own car on a screen and then go and test it on the track. Jacob went on his own and I was with Leila, she managed to pick the most uneconomical design but the car looked awesome, like a pick up truck on steroids! The ride itself was actually brilliant! You get up to 60mph whilst taking corners and it is great fun. Jacob loved it and couldn’t wait to go back on with Stacey. I waited with Flozza whilst she slept, we were sat near a drain that reeked, it was in the shade though so I didn’t bother moving!
We decided that we were going to eat at the resort next door to ours tonight so we got the shuttle bus to Port Orleans French Quarter. We were instantly happy, the menu was completely different, we had vegetables!!! It was a much quieter resort and they trusted you with metal cutlery instead of plastic, ironic thing is it’s considered a slightly cheaper resort, we contemplated asking to move but couldn’t be bothered with the hassle so just enjoyed our meal and we’re grateful we knew about it for the future. We walked along the river back to our resort and had a look round before returning to our room to recharge the batteries before another day at Universal tomorrow
